When Dick Johnson took over the Manasquan girls' basketball program in 1981, he built it into one of the most successful programs in New Jersey history. In 25 seasons on the sideline, he compiled a 475-179 record — a .726 winning percentage that reflects relentless excellence.

Under Coach Johnson, the Warriors won 5 NJSIAA State Championships (1983, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1993), 2 Shore Conference Championships (1981 and 1983), and 14 division titles. His teams were consistently recognized for sportsmanship, earning consecutive Shore Conference Team Sportsmanship Awards. He was named Coach of the Year by the Asbury Park Press in 1987 and 1988, and by the Daily News in 1987.

In 2003, Dick Johnson was inducted into the New Jersey State Coaches' Hall of Fame — one of the highest honors available to a coach in the state. Beyond basketball, he also served as JV soccer coach for both boys' and girls' teams for 20 years, and as freshman baseball coach for two seasons.
