Coach Hal Manson

Football
Coach Hal Manson came to Manasquan High School in 1949 as an assistant football coach under the legendary Granville Magee, and took the reins as head coach in 1950. He would lead the program for the next twelve seasons, compiling a 67-36-2 record — finishing .500 or better in all but one of those years.
Manson's finest hour came in 1958, when he guided the Big Blue to both the Central Jersey Group III Championship and the Shore Conference Championship — a double title that stands as the signature achievement of his coaching career.
Beyond the scoreboard, Manson was remembered by his players and students as a man of deep character. The 1963 MHS Yearbook — dedicated to him — wrote that "his friendliness and sincere interest in his students will long be remembered by those who know him." He taught Ancient History, World History, and Social Studies throughout his time at MHS, shaping generations of Manasquan students both inside and outside the classroom.
