John 'Jack' Schellenger carved out a lasting legacy at Manasquan High School across two sports. As head football coach in 1944 and 1945, he guided the Blue and Gray through the wartime era with an 8-5-1 record across 14 games, including a standout 5-1-1 campaign in 1945.
Schellenger is perhaps best remembered as the long-time head baseball coach at Manasquan, a role he held from the mid-1940s through at least the early 1960s. His patient, consistent coaching produced a remarkable lineage of All-Shore and All-State talent.
Among the players he mentored was Alfred Morgan (Class of 1948), a two-time All-State outfielder who went on to CIAA championships at North Carolina A&T. Bruce Beckman (Class of 1956) batted .424 for Schellenger in a season that also saw the versatile multi-sport star named Shore Conference MVP. His dedication to the Warriors over multiple decades earned him induction into the Manasquan Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
