Following his time at Manasquan, Greer attended Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania, where he continued his baseball career. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Greer returned home and spent the rest of his life in dedicated service to the community of Avon-by-the-Sea.
He served two terms as Chief of the Avon Fire Department, was treasurer of the Avon F.D. Relief Association for 47 years, and served as a captain of the Avon First Aid Squad. He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Neptune for over 35 years before retiring in 1990. Donald K. Greer Sr. passed away on January 23, 2020, at the age of 90.
