Ellen Murray Liu was one of the finest basketball players in Manasquan High School history. As a four-year varsity starter and senior team captain, she scored 1,106 career points while averaging 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals per game.


Liu was the centerpiece of back-to-back Central NJ Group II State Championship teams in 1987 and 1988. Her 1988 season earned her the Asbury Park Press 1st Team All-Monmouth, 1st Team All-Central Jersey, 2nd Team All-State Group II, and the Dorothy Emerson MHS Outstanding Female Athlete award.


She also played three years of varsity soccer at MHS. After graduating in 1988, Liu earned a Division I basketball scholarship to Colgate University, where she played from 1988 to 1992.
