G. Gerard Barnett

G. Gerard Barnett was a dominant two-sport athlete at Manasquan High School, captaining the golf team all four years and claiming the 1958 NJ State High School Individual Golf Championship. He led the team to the Shore Conference Golf Championship in 1958 and won the Shore Conference Individual Championship as well.

On the basketball court, Barnett was equally impressive, serving as co-captain in his junior and senior years and earning All-Shore Conference and All-County recognition. His two-sport excellence continued at Blair Academy in 1959, where he earned All-State honors in both golf and basketball.

Barnett went on to Duke University in 1963, where he competed on both the golf and basketball teams — one of the rare athletes to play two sports at the Division I level. His remarkable career as a two-sport champion from Manasquan to Duke makes him one of the most distinguished athletes in school history.
