James Dickson was one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Manasquan High School history. In 1973, he earned NY Daily News All Star honors, 3rd Team All State recognition from the Newark Star-Ledger, 1st Team All Shore, and 1st Team All Monmouth County — a set of honors that confirmed him as one of the finest signal-callers in the Shore Conference.

On the baseball diamond, Dickson earned 2nd Team All Shore honors at first base in 1974. His dual-sport excellence attracted college interest, and he accepted a four-year athletic scholarship to Southern Illinois University to play quarterback — one of the highest honors available to a New Jersey high school football player.
