John Geiges

John J. Geiges Sr. was one of Manasquan High School’s outstanding athletes of the 1940s and a proud representative of the Warrior tradition.

A graduate of Manasquan High School in 1947, Geiges was a three-year varsity letter winner in football and also played varsity baseball. On the football field, he was known for his versatility, playing multiple positions including guard, quarterback, and fullback. His leadership and toughness helped define one of the strongest early eras of Manasquan football.

As captain of the Warriors football team, Geiges helped lead Manasquan to Shore Conference and state titles in both 1946 and 1947. His performance earned him All-Shore Conference recognition, placing him among the top players in the area during his high school career.

Following graduation, Geiges was awarded an athletic scholarship to Rutgers for football before enrolling at Admiral Farragut Academy, where he continued playing varsity football. He also played with the Point Pleasant Pelicans, helping the team finish near the top of the Jersey Shore Football League.

Away from athletics, Geiges built a respected career and legacy in the local community. He operated Geiges Signs, Inc. in Brielle for more than 60 years, becoming known for his artistry in custom sign painting, carved signs, and boat lettering. He was also an avid sport fisherman and longtime member of the Manasquan River Marlin and Tuna Club, where his stories and experience helped preserve local sporting history.

John Geiges’ Hall of Fame recognition honors not only his athletic success, but also his leadership, character, and lifelong connection to the Manasquan community.
