Maren Haus

2010

Tennis

Maren Haus was a rare combination of elite athlete and exceptional scholar. Over four varsity tennis seasons at Manasquan (1995–98), she compiled 103 career victories and was named First Team All-State and First Team All-Shore all four years — one of the most dominant runs in MHS tennis history. She was a member of the 1994 NJ State Championship team and was ranked among the top 25 individual players in New Jersey high school tennis by the Newark Star Ledger.

In 1997, Haus was recognized nationally with the Bill Talbert National Junior Sportsmanship Award and the Middle States Tournament Association Sportsmanship Award. In 1998, the Asbury Park Press named her Player of the Year. In 1999 she was named to the New Jersey All-Decades Team for the 1990s.

Haus graduated from Manasquan as class valedictorian. At Wake Forest University she earned four varsity letters, was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team, and in 2002 received the ACC Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete Award. That same year she was named Yale University Women's Tennis Assistant Coach. In 2003, she was a USTA National Grass Court Doubles Runner-Up and won the USTA Women's Singles National Open Championship.
