Matthew McKeon was the finest golfer in Manasquan High School history, compiling a 47-4 career record over four years of varsity play. He went undefeated as a freshman (9-0) and sophomore (14-0) before finishing 12-2 in both his junior and senior seasons.

McKeon earned Asbury Park Press All B-South recognition in both 1997 and 1998, the 3rd Team All-Shore award in 1998, the Donald "Ducky" Housen Memorial Award, the MHS Outstanding Gold Award, and the Wall Herald Golf Athlete of the Year. He ranked in the Shore Conference's top 10 in both birdies and scoring average in his senior season.

His most legendary moment came at the Shore Conference Championship, when he called his own bunker shot on the 18th hole — a moment that became known as "The Shot Heard Round the Shore." He capped his career with a 3rd place finish at the 1998 NJ State Tournament of Champions.
