MHS Football Team

2012

Football

The 1958 Manasquan High School football team stands as one of the most dominant squads in program history. Under Head Coach Hal Manson, the Blue and Gray went 9-0, claiming the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III State Championship and the Shore Conference Class C Championship.

What made the 1958 team truly exceptional was its defense. The unit allowed just 18 points over the entire season — the all-time Manasquan record for fewest points allowed — and recorded 7 shutouts, including 5 consecutive shutouts, both tied for all-time program records.

Among the players on that historic squad was Vic Kubu, then a junior, who would return as head coach and guide the Warriors to 10 state championships of his own. Kubu and fellow back Doug Diecke were dubbed the 'Touchdown Twins' by the Asbury Park Press. G. Gerard Barnett (Class of 1958), a 2024 Hall of Fame inductee, was also a member of the team.

The 1958 team's legacy is cemented not only by its championship banner but by the defensive standard it set — a record that has never been matched in more than six decades of Warriors football.
